Palisade Software Helps in Argentina’s
Economic Recovery

NEW PROJECT FROM LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS AND
THE UNIVERSITY OF BUENOS AIRES

Buenos Aires, Argentina - September 9, 2005. During 2001 and 2002, Argentina suffered an economic crisis that brought the country to near-collapse. Now a new cooperative project from the London School of Economics and the University of Buenos Aires seeks to help bolster the country’s recovery by improving resource allocation efficiency in its companies and NGOs. The joint venture, named Proyecto MARA, has a mandate to introduce quantitative approaches and tools to the resource allocation process. Palisade Corporation is proud to be one of the project’s three technological partners and to help disseminate quantitative decision-making techniques in Latin America.

Proyecto MARA (Methodologías para la Asignación de Recursos en Argentina) is an ambitious enterprise that will draw on the expertise of academics from the London School of Economics, the University of Buenos Aires and the Foundation of German Business. It has attracted support from many agencies of the Argentine government as well as an international group of high-level research institutions. Proyecto MARA’s corporate partners include Siemens Argentina, BASF Argentina, Shering Argentina, and Volkswagen Argentina.

@RISK and PrecisionTree, Palisade’s popular tools for decision analysis and simulation, will be used to create resource allocation models for the participating companies and NGOs. Martin Schilling, Proyecto MARA’s central project coordinator, says he and his associates expect software provided through the project to offer new pathways to financial success to senior management of the corporations and other organizations. “The basic idea of the project is very simple,” he explains. “To give senior management the newest tools, the newest techniques to lower costs and increase efficiency in their organizations—and to help this spread throughout Argentina.”

Proyecto MARA got underway in participating organizations throughout Argentina this June, and Schilling expects the researchers to report their results late in September at a conference at the Centre for Applied Decision Analysis at the University of Buenos Aires.
